Keep Your Intranet Fresh—and Readers Returning:Try Integrating LexisNexis Content and Searches to Your Pages

It’s easy to get started. Just answer the question … “What would you like to do?” Here are six options:

1. Bypass Searching and Link Right to Search Results—Updated Every Time You Click

Do you or a group of your customers enter the same search regularly? Save time by creating an URL that includes your search logic. Click the link, the search runs, and after authentication or login, displays results from nexis.com® or lexis.com®, according to your subscription. Since you run the search when you click the link, you always get the most current results.

Here’s a lexis.com (Xlink) example that searches for “swine flu or H1N1 virus” in the Today’s News source:

http://www.lexis.com/research/xlink?ORIGINATION_CODE=00188&source=140956&search=Swine%20flu%20or%20H1N1%20virus&autosubmit=yes&searchtype=bool

And here’s the same search/source as a nexis.com (URL API) link:

http://w3.nexis.com/new/api/version1/sr?csi=140956&sr=swine+flu+or+H1N1+virus&pi=NEWS

2. Display Headlines Via LexisNexis® Publisher—Even Non-Users Can Link to Stories

Do you track a topic, company or industry regularly? Consider using LexisNexis Publisher to post stories on your intranet so that users—even those without nexis.com or lexis.com IDs—can read stories you’ve selected.

Learn More: If you are a current LexisNexis Publisher subscriber, post your selected news stories via a link to a list of headlines, an RSS feed, Javascript (provided by LexisNexis), an XML feed, or a portal component. (Also distribute links to stories via e-mail to your internal audience.)

If you’d like to know more about LexisNexis Publisher and how it help you publish or distribute current news through e-mail transmission, intranet update or even a regular custom newsletter, go to http://corporate.lexisnexis.com/publisher/

3. Pull an RSS Feed into an External Feed Aggregator

Do you use a feed reader to integrate content from many sources into one display? You can also pull your LexisNexis Publisher content into a standard RSS feed and add it to your feed reader.

Learn More: The simple steps are in your LexisNexis Publisher Users Guide. (We’ll need to create a link to http://www.lexisnexis.com/documents/pdf/20080825041659_large.pdf)  (See page 90 on Generating Tokens for RSS readers.) Secured connection required.

4. Link to a LexisNexis® Dossier Report—Or Just the Parts You Need. (The Data Refreshes With Every Click)

The LexisNexis® Dossier Suite delivers current reports on the companies, industries and executives you track—more than 43 million public and private companies, their key personnel, and more than 1,000 U.S. industries to choose from.

Now you can generate custom HTML links to specific LexisNexis Dossier report content you need—just a company stock chart, for example—for intranet customer pages, internal Microsoft® Office Sharepoint sites, etc. Link to an entire report—or just the sections you need. And because the information is hosted on the LexisNexis site, it updates every time a user select the link.

5. Embed a Search Gadget

Do your customers search the same resources again and again? If your users frequently search news, company information or LexisNexis® Company Dossier, for example, you may want to embed a small, specialized search form (search gadget) on your intranet. Then your users may enter search terms and run a search directly from your intranet instead of opening a browser and going to nexis.com or lexis.com. (Users must have the portal component on their ID for the component to work.)

6. Pull XML Content into an Application You Choose with the LexisNexis Web Services Kit

Need a particular type of content? Want to pull content from the LexisNexis services and upload it to your Customer Relationship Management system? Or pull a news feed for your media analytics tool? The LexisNexis Web Services Kit allows you to submit searches and retrieve results in XML format so that you can use them in your own application.
