Length of article (12/08)
“I want to be able to search for longer articles. How do I do that on nexis.com®?”
There are times when conducting news research that one in-depth, relevant, article is preferred over a compilation of shorter stories. One indicator of depth of discussion is the length of an article. Essentially, a longer article can often provide in one document what it might take six relevant, yet shorter, articles to accomplish. The LexisNexis® services does, in fact, offer a way to find these longer, relevant articles by allowing you to restrict your search according to word count using the LENGTH Segment. Here is an example of how you construct the search in the News, Most 90 Days source:
SEARCH: company(disney) and length>3000
The number indicates the word count in the article. You can also refine your search for documents of specific length (use = ) or a smaller length (use < ). Now you can hone in on longer or shorter articles as your information needs dictate.
