“Giant Brain”

New LexisNexis® Patent Semantic-Search Feature
Uncovers Relevant Terms From 10 Million Documents

To help your patent professionals leverage their expertise even further, LexisNexis is bringing you a new intelligent search capability.

Semantic Search powered by PureDiscovery™ can help improve your search results by suggesting concepts that relate semantically to your search query.

A replacement for Boolean searching in patent materials?

No. The Semantic Search feature enhances Boolean queries by making intelligent connections and bringing additional related concepts for the researcher’s consideration—especially helpful when patent terminology is vague or obscure, making a precise Boolean query difficult.

The Semantic Search “brain” was developed from the USPTO patent index of more than 7 million documents. But that was just a start. More than 2.5 million Elsevier journal articles have been added, and the base will continue to grow. In other words, Semantic Search is dynamic—not constrained by static indexes.

And unlike other, less comprehensive semantic features, with LexisNexis Semantic Search powered by PureDiscovery you stay in complete control. Choose to let Semantic Search run without intervention or choose to modify the concepts. You can review the suggested concepts, assign relative importance (weighting), eliminate concepts you don’t wish to use, or even add more concepts of your own.

You can also narrow your Semantic Search results by going back to your Semantic Search suggested terms or with Boolean search terms.
