Challenges to Expert Witness Testimony Revealed and Explained

Expert witnesses are only as good as their testimony. So how do your litigators determine they have the best expert for their case?

New LexisNexis Expert Witness Summaries give you the most important facts about experts—their education, where they have testified and for whom. But there’s more. These summaries also fill you in on any challenges to their testimony—and the results of those challenges.

Now available on a transactional basis, the collection of 1,700+ summaries focuses on expert witnesses in litigation (personal injury and property damage, e.g., toxic torts, asbestos and mold litigation). These summaries were compiled by the LexisNexis legal editors who monitor and report on the mass tort practice area.

Watch for additional summaries on experts who have appeared/testified in litigation in all key practice areas and disciplines.

Tips for Searching LexisNexis Witness Summaries
Find Expert Witness Summaries in a variety of locations at lexis.com, for example, in each state’s jury verdicts resources and in a variety of practice areas. They are also located in the Public Records Jury & Verdicts resources.

For quick review, each summary lists:

  • expert name
  • expert discipline, e.g., vocational rehabilitation or pathology
  • “updated through”: Date of publication (not the date through which the research was completed)
  • number of summarized cases in which the expert has appeared
  • number of identified challenges

Then the summary shows the expert’s cases—federal cases listed first—and includes details on counsel, judge, the nature of the expert’s testimony, where available, and case’s outcome, including settlement and award details. Challenges and the results are summarized. Also find links to some full-text documents, such as referenced cases, motions for summary judgment and the briefs supporting the motion, etc.
