Public Records (August 2009)
Recent changes in the display of the Permissible Use Certification screen that is viewed prior to searching public records.
Public records may contain regulated data. As a result, access to public records is governed by a number of U.S. federal and state laws and regulations. At LexisNexis, we take great care to safeguard the information contained in our systems, and strictly adhere to the requirements of applicable laws, including the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA), the Drivers Privacy Protection Act (DPPA) and other various state and federal laws and regulations.
In order to ensure that public records are being accessed only in a compliant manner, you will now be required to certify to a GLBA and DPPA permissible purpose that permits you to access the regulated data, or to affirmatively indicate that you have no permissible purpose, before running your public records search.
The first time you select any public records source during your research session, a permissible purpose certification screen will display after you have selected your public records source and prior to the execution of your search. Certify to the permissible purpose that allows you to access the regulated data, and your search results will then be returned.
After you have certified to your permissible purposes, these selections will persist throughout your research session, unless you proactively decide to change the permissible purpose. To change your permissible use, select the hyperlinked permissible purpose located at the bottom of the search screen. You will be taken back to the GLBA and DPPA permissible use certification screens, where you can revise your selections and continue with your search.
