Getting to Know Deidra
1. If you weren’t a librarian, what would you be and why?
Anthropology Professor or Archivist — passion for learning, exploring, understanding ancient cultures
2. What is one thing you have learned about yourself while being an LRC?
The biggest thing I have gained from being an LRC is the confidence I now have in myself as a public speaker. As a child I would literally cringe and stammer when forced to speak in a classroom or group setting. Being an LRC has given me the opportunity to stretch my personal comfort zones and thus has helped me discover that I actually enjoy presenting and speaking in group settings.
3. If you won a trip to anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
I have been fortunate in my life that I have been able to travel to many wondrous cities. I especially have a passion for exploring and visiting Old World Ancient cities. If I were given a trip today I would go to Egypt to visit the pyramids and other ancient ruins before they are permanently closed and restricted from tourist visits.
4. What technology has transformed your life; you can’t imagine living without it now and why?
Automatic Bill Paying Online Banking — LOVE IT!!! Until I moved to a paperless system I didn’t realize how much paper I was wasting in receiving the paper bill each month and then mailing the check, payment stub and envelopes back to the company. Plus it has saved on the cost of stamps too — a double bonus!
5. What is your favorite comfort food and why?
My territory is large and thus I spend a great deal of time on the road traveling between cities. When traffic is a nightmare I start feeling really stressed, so I will stop and buy the following two items: Peanut M&M’s® and Coca-Cola®. The “aaaaah” feeling of drinking a Coca-Cola soft drink and the salty-sweet flavor of M&M’s is my ultimate stress reliever.
