More is Less! Less Time and Less Money (June 30, 2010)
By Leanne Battle

I’m researching jury verdicts and settlement amounts in recent asbestos-related cases. I’ll be looking in specific jurisdictions, but there are enough different jurisdictions that I’d prefer not to search them separately. And, of course, I don’t want to miss anything pertinent. What’s my best course of action?

We have recently released a Mega Jury Verdicts & Settlements source in the Expert Witness Analysis section of the Legal tab on lexis.com®. Searching this one source will retrieve results from national and state jury verdicts publications, Dolan Media Verdicts and What’s It Worth, as well as results from our exclusive collection of materials from IDEX®. You will save time by running just one search instead of a separate search in each individual source. Also, the cost of searching in the Mega file is about 30 percent of the cost of searching separately in all of the included individual sources.

Remember that you are searching in a Mega file, keep your search broad since not all segments are present in all of the sources included in a Mega file. Use your segments in FOCUS searches. For example, your original search could be “asbestos and date aft 2008.” Use FOCUS™ to incorporate the state or court segment to narrow to specific jurisdictions.
