Whittle 'Daily Update Overload' into a Power-Packed E-Mail Using LexisNexis® Total Alerts Powered by Ozmosys®
By Matt Wagner

Remember when a paper routing slip served as primary delivery mechanism for distributing journals, periodicals and other current-awareness publications in law firms? Countless in our ranks attached those slips day after day, week after week. And the poor associates waited to get their hands on information involving newly promulgated regulations and recent opinions published in a popular legal periodical as it sat buried on the corner of a partner’s desk.

Today law librarians disseminate information electronically via e-mail and firm intranets, while feverishly trying not to exceed the “rules” parameters in the firm’s e-mail software and to avoid “Cut & Paste” overload. And that same associate who waited patiently to receive that hard-copy newsletter now has 10 or so e-mails every day to sort through in order to stay abreast of client developments and practice-area trends.

Not to worry … LexisNexis comes to the rescue for the librarian and the attorney with LexisNexis Total Alerts powered by Ozmosys, a solution that allows firms to simplify, consolidate and deliver critical information to anyone who needs it. With

LexisNexis Total Alerts, any individual in the firm can receive a single e-mail each day with updates from their essential information sources. What’s more, LexisNexis Total Alerts enables librarians to quickly and easily personalize and distribute information.

So how does it work? LexisNexis Total Alerts streamlines enterprise distribution list management and electronic content delivery. It allows you to consolidate electronic delivery of some LexisNexis subscriptions (LexisNexis® Publisher, Mealey’s™ and CourtLink), Web sites (government and commercial), blogs and RSS feeds as well as other premium content subscriptions (e.g., BNA®, CCH®, Westlaw® and many more).

LexisNexis Total Alerts also offers customized distribution of certain content to specific individuals or groups. It’s also flexible—allowing you to add or discontinue content updates as your needs change.

Here’s a review of some of the key features of LexisNexis Total Alerts powered by Ozmosys:

  • Alpha Directory—Now this tool allows you to search for users and alerts in alphabetical order; simply use the A – Z directory.
  • Distribution Lists—As the Total Alerts Administrator, you can create distribution lists with no limitations and assign customized information, e.g., topic groups and individual alerts, to members of the organization.
  • E-mails—End users have the option of receiving two e-mails—morning and late afternoon. Or they can choose to receive e-mail only when there is new information. Update Now allows users to check for updates throughout the day.
  • Prioritizing Alerts—Arrange the order of alerts in a user’s e-mail so they are ranked by importance or relevance rather than in alphabetical order.
  • Reports—The reporting tool allows the LexisNexis Total Alerts administrator to monitor the number of users receiving specific alerts. You can also remove users from an alert.
  • Topics—Group similar alerts for more efficient distribution. For example, there may be certain content that everyone in your Coporate/Securites practice receives. With the Topics feature, you can assign several subscriptions all at once to a single user rather than one at a time. (Combine the power of the Topics feature with the Distribution List to assign subscriptions to entire groups.)
  • Time Zones—Choose when users receive their LexisNexis Total Alerts e-mail by selecting the applicable time zone … a particularly valuable tool for national and global organizations.

Not only do some features of LexisNexis Total Alerts provide you with enhanced delivery of information throughout the firm, they are easy to implement. LexisNexis Total Alerts powered by Ozmosys is a Web-based platform that requires no software downloads. (That means no waiting in line to get on your IT department’s “To-Do List.”)

As an added bonus, LexisNexis Total Alerts also ensures compliance with copyright and vendor agreements because it permits only the users you have designated to receive a particular subscription.

Librarians have always played a role in knowledge management in law firms. And as the legal marketplace grows more competitive, your role in delivering knowledge is more crucial than ever. Let LexisNexis Total Alerts guide your way!
