Librarian Relations Group

Meet Cindy Spohr

Cindy Spohr

Cindy is Senior Director, Librarian Relations Group, and has held various positions within the company since 1985. Prior to joining LexisNexis, Cindy was the Law Librarian at Smith & Schnacke, A Legal Professional Association, where she managed four libraries for 140 attorneys in three cities.

Cindy and her staff in the Librarian Relations Group are charged with managing relationships between LexisNexis and law firm, law school, state and local court, state and local government, and federal court librarians nationally. This includes the field-based Librarian Relations Consultant program as well as a dedicated marketing team. Cindy also manages the company's professional development education programs designed especially for law librarians: Advanced Management for Private Law Libraries (AMPLL) and Teaching Research in Private Law Libraries (TRIPLL).

Cindy is a member of the American Association of Law Libraries, Special Libraries Association and the Ohio Regional Association of Law Libraries. She is currently a member of the AALL Public Relations Committee, and the chair of Grants and Scholarships for the Education Committee of the Ohio Regional Association of Law Libraries.

Cindy attended Indiana University, where she received a B.A. in Psychology and English and an M.L.S. In 1993, she completed the M.B.A. program at the University of Dayton.

"LexisNexis has always recognized the importance of librarians in the information industry and in the organizations of our customers. Support of the American Association of Law Libraries and the Special Libraries Association at both the national and regional levels, a newsletter for librarians, professional development programs, and special training for librarians were all done by LexisNexis prior to formalizing them into one area -- the Librarian Relations Group. The Librarian Relations Group was formed in 1993 and I feel privileged to be an initial and continuing member of this group.

Since then we have continued to build upon this foundation, especially with the introduction of the Librarian Relations Consultant position in 1994. Through the years our focus and mission remain unchanged: To provide you with expert training and personalized support to help you succeed, and to represent your interests and concerns to LexisNexis management, sales, marketing and product development.

In my current role with the Librarian Relations Group, I have the privilege of managing the Librarian Relations Consultants and a dedicated marketing team."

Getting to Know Cindy

The biography above details Cindy’s professional qualifications and experience. Now it’s time to get to know Cindy, the person. Cindy reveals a few cozier insights about herself in the questions below.

1. What technology has transformed your life, you can’t imagine living without it now, and why?

Spelling is not a strength of mine, so Spellcheck is a requirement for me.

2. If you won a trip to anywhere in the world, where would you go, and why?

I would like to tour the islands of the world. I love the water, sand, etc. and there are lots of great islands to visit!

3. You are traveling around the world, and only have room for two books. Which two do you take and why?

What a hardship, only two books! Maybe there are public libraries nearby, or I could load audio books on my iPod®. If limited to only two to carry in print with me, I would take the following because I have read each of them numerous times so I know that I will enjoy them again and again:
Rules for Aging: A Wry and Witty Guide to Life, by Roger Rosenblatt. Laugh-out-loud funny and insightful.
Charlotte’s Web, by E.B. White. It’s a classic that holds up in rereading.

4. Tell me a song that when you hear it, you always get a smile on your face.

Anything by Fleetwood Mac.

5. What are two of your favorite web sites, and why?

Zappos.com because of the huge selection of shoes, great customer service, and shipping is always free!
Amazon.com® since it’s all about books.
