Federal Housing Administration (FHA)

The Federal Housing Administration (FHA) provides mortgage insurance on loans made by FHA-approved lenders throughout the United States and its territories. The FHA is a division of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. More information is posted in the FHA section of the HUD Portal.

FHA letters (a/k/a HUD Mortgagee Letters) are posted on HUD's Mortgagee Letters page (1976-Present). Selected FHA letters are published in CCH's Federal Banking Law Reporter.

Most FHA Handbooks are available on the HUD Handbooks page. Two FHA Handbooks - HUD 4155.1, Mortgage Credit Analysis for Mortgage Insurance and HUD 4155.2, Lender's Guide to the Single Family Mortgage Insurance Process - are available through the FHA Handbook Portal. FHA handbooks are also available on Westlaw.
