The OTS regulated "all Federal and many state-chartered thrift institutions" to make sure they are financially sound. The OTS took over the responsibilities of the Federal Home Loan Bank Board in 1989. The OTS was merged into the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency on July 21, 2011.
As of 2012, the OTS Web site was still available as an archive of OTS information.
Selected OTS opinions and bulletins were published in CCH's Federal Banking Law Reporter. Westlaw has a database of OTS materials (FFIN-OTS), which are also included in their broader Federal banking materials database (FFIN-ADMIN).
