What's the consequence of transferring from the New York office to a less prominent location of a major firm (mainly for personal reasons)?

Wow. The answer to that question is, "It depends." I transferred from the main office of a firm in Pittsburgh, and the decision turned out to be the right one for me. I miss some of the more high profile cases that I worked on there, but my work-life balance is much better. Good luck with your decision!

Give it a try. You could always move back to NY if you''re not happy at the less prominent location.

You could look at it this way. . . your move might actually be a step forward in your career. You might make some invaluable contacts in the less prominent location and also have an opportunity to take a larger role in interesting and major litigation.
