When it comes to Indiana's current pro bono and legal aid efforts, a northwest Indiana attorney literally wrote the rule, Rule 6.5 Voluntary Attorney Pro Bono Plan. Richard P. Komyatte, who earned his law degree 46 years ago from the University of Chicago, may be at a point in life where he could retire. Yet he continues to maintain his practice, Komyatte & Associates in Highland, just with fewer hours and clients than before. In late 2007, he helped start an endowment with a goal of $ 300,000 that would produce $ 15,000 a year for income for the Indiana First Judicial District Pro Bono Committee, serving Lake, Porter, LaPorte, Starke, Pulaski, Jasper, and Newton counties.
