Arent Fox's Linda Baumann Edits New ABA Treatise on Health Care Fraud
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Arent Fox LLP has announced that Linda Baumann, a partner in the firm’s health care practice, is the editor-in-chief of Health Care Fraud and Abuse:  Practical Perspectives, Second Edition, an 867-page treatise that offers seasoned practitioners, as well as those new to health care law and law students, assistance in structuring business arrangements, defending clients in government investigations and prosecutions, implementing effective corporate compliance programs, and more.

As editor-in-chief, Baumann led a group of group of highly experienced health care attorneys to create a work that provides practical guidance and invaluable insight on handling the many complex fraud and abuse laws, regulations and enforcement actions targeting the health care industry nationwide.

The book contains chapters on critical topics, including an overview of the fraud and abuse laws, the Stark Law prohibiting physician self-referrals, the False Claims Act, director and officer liability, Medicare Part D, hospital-physician relationships, defending health care fraud cases, corporate compliance programs, fraud and abuse in the managed care context and shareholder qui tam disclosure.

Arent Fox attorneys Larri Short, a partner in the firm’s health care practice, and health care associate Richard Liner contributed to the book, co-writing “Chapter 10: Controlling Fraud, Waste, and Abuse in the Medicare Part D Program,” an emerging area of major government enforcement efforts.
