Basil Godellas is a partner in Winston & Strawn’s financial services practice group who concentrates on representing companies in the asset management industry on a wide variety of regulatory and transactional matters.
 
Mr. Godellas counsels clients in connection with structuring and forming private investment funds, hedge funds, group trusts and similar collective investment vehicles, securities and investment management compliance matters, acquisitions, divestitures, and other financial services industry-related transactions.  
 
His recent transactions include structuring and documenting numerous onshore and offshore funds, including "master feeder" funds; representing a large investment manager in connection with its reorganization and the spin-off of its alternative investments business unit; and representing the private banking division of a European bank in connection with its acquisition of a registered investment adviser.
 
Mr. Godellas is a member of the Managed Funds Association, the Futures Industry Association, and the American Bar Association's private investment entities subcommittee. Mr. Godellas was recently elected to the Board of Directors of Hedge Funds Care.
 
Mr. Godellas received a B.A. in Economics from Lawrence University in 1988. He received a J.D., cum laude, from Loyola University Chicago School of Law in 1991, where he was a member of the Loyola University of Chicago Law Journal.
 
Mr. Godellas is a frequent speaker on topics related to private investment funds and investment manager compliance issues. He is the author of "Commercial Law Survey," Loyola University of Chicago Law Journal, Winter 1990.
