Program: THE IMPACT OF THE ECONOMIC DOWNTURN ON WORKERS’ COMPENSATION SYSTEMS
The theme of the 26th Annual WCRI Issues and Research Conference is how the current economic downturn may reshape workers’ compensation systems.
Many believe that the events of the past year have created a recession unlike past recessions, and that the recovery will be unlike past recoveries. Those who hold this view argue that the recovery will not be a return to the pre-recession “normal.” Rather it will mark a return to a “new normal” – one in which revenues for almost all organizations will be lower, forcing organizations to be smaller and more efficient if they are to be successful.
If correct, this has significant structural implications for workers’ compensation systems. This year’s conference explores some of the implications.

There will be a conference on January 12 for the East coast and Central states and a conference (with the same agenda) on January 14 for the West coast states. The new video format will allow more people to engage in our conference while maintaining an interactive experience for the attendees through a mixture of presentations, panels, and audience discussion. Instead of traveling to Boston, you will be able to participate from one of several video sites located throughout the U.S. These sites include:
