Presidential Inauguration Part III: Hope
Director of Customer Contact, LexisNexis
Today in Washington, I attended the Lincoln Memorial event with performances by James Taylor, Mary J Blige, John Legend, Bettye LaVette and others. The highlight to me came when Tom Hanks reviewed President Lincoln’s speeches and I witnessed the hope they communicated to the audience 150 years later. With over 500,000 people in attendance the effect of Lincoln’s words on the audience was palpable.
Throughout President-elect Obama’s campaign, there was a reoccurring message to the American people: Hope.
Obama focused on the hope that would be enlivened by seeing this country take a new course under the leadership of a new president.
The public focused on the hope of putting our past of racial conflict and discrimination securely behind us with the election of a multi-racial president.
