David L. Cleveland, an attorney at Catholic Charities of Washington DC, has obtained asylum or withholding of removal for people from twenty-five different countries. He is a graduate of the University of Rochester and of Case Western Reserve University School of Law. After being a college instructor in Indonesia for three years, David conducted over forty civil jury trials, representing the District of Columbia in state and federal courts. He joined Catholic Charities in 1998, in its immigration division, specializing in asylum. Articles and chapters by David have been published by the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), Bender’s Immigration Bulletin, and ILW.com. He served as the AILA representative to the USCIS Asylum Office from 2003 to 2006 and as the Chair of the AILA Asylum Committee from 2004 to 2005.
