Corps reissues permit to Coeur d'Alene Mine in Alaska

Prior posts have noted the battle over the 404 permit for the Coeur d'Alene mine in Alaska, including the U.S. Supreme Court's decision, reversing the 9th Circuit, in allowing the permit to be issued; in the most recent post on the controversy, it was noted that EPA recommended to the Corps that the permit be issued, but only with substantial constraints.

The Corps has now rejected the EPA recommendations and reissued the 404 permit. Only two minor changes were made: (a) the construction deadline was extended to 7/31/14, and (b) the acreage that could be disturbed was reduced slightly.
