Fredric D. Bellamy and Mark E. Freeze



Fredric D. Bellamy is a partner in the Phoenix office of Steptoe & Johnson LLP, where he is a member of the Intellectual Property group, as well as the Litigation and Regulatory & Industry Affairs Departments. With over twenty years of experience in civil litigation, his practice includes Internet- and e-commerce-related litigation; litigation of intellectual property and technology-related matters, including anti-piracy suits; trademark infringement and unfair competition actions; misappropriation of trade secrets; covenants not to compete and employee raiding actions; and issues relating to violations of federal communications laws. Mr. Bellamy has been recognized by a number of organizations, including Best Lawyers in America 2008, Information Technology Law; Chambers USA 2007, Environment (Arizona); and Southwest Super Lawyers 2007, Intellectual Property Litigation. In 2007, he also received the prestigious Burton Award for Legal Achievement. He is a former chair of the State Bar of Arizona Intellectual Property Section and the E-Commerce, Internet & Technology Law Section.

Mr. Bellamy is a member of the Arizona Bar, the U.S. Supreme Court Bar, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and the U.S. District Court for the Districts of Arizona and California. A graduate of Harvard University, B.A., cum laude and the Harvard Law School, Mr. Bellamy frequently speaks and writes about technology and science-related legal issues.

Mark E. Freeze is special counsel in the Phoenix office of Steptoe & Johnson LLP. His practice encompasses environmental, toxic tort and complex civil litigation, environmental enforcement defense, and environmental counseling—including dismissals for his clients in Superfund and toxic tort litigation, as well as recovery of millions of dollars in response costs for Superfund plaintiffs. He has written and lectured extensively on the areas of his practice and was awarded the prestigious Burton Award for Legal Achievement in 2007 as co-author of an article on the significant obstacles likely to dissuade plaintiffs from bringing global warning tort claims. This article originally appeared in a 2006 issue of Toxic Torts Reporter.

Mr. Freeze received his undergraduate degree from Baylor University, and his J.D. from The University of Texas School of Law. He is admitted to the state bars of Arizona and South Carolina.
