Ed Detlie graduated from the George Washington University National Law Center in 1975. After several years as an Administrative Law Judge for the State of Iowa, he began private law practice in Ottumwa, Iowa in 1982, concentrating on workers' rights and Social Security Disability. Ed was President of the Iowa Association of Workers' Compensation Lawyers in 2004 to 2005, and is chair of the 2009 Workers' Compensation Symposium in June of next year.
 
In addition to working in the area of workers' compensation, Ed has made numerous presentations concerning Social Security Disability, most recently in St. Louis in 2007 and in Little Rock and Los Angeles in 2008. He serves on the Technology Committee of the Iowa State Bar Association, and has served as a consultant to LexisNexis on Social Security issues, including forms on LexisNexis Automated Social Security Forms, the LexisNexis Social Security Area of Law Page and the recently-released LexisNexis Total Practice Advantage Social Security.
