Jefferson James Davis graduated in 1973 from the University of Texas School of Law in Austin, where he was an Associate Editor of the Texas Law Review. After serving three years in the Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps, he was an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Georgia from 1976 to 1979. From 1979 to 2007, he was in private practice in Decatur, Georgia, specializing in civil litigation at the trial and appellate levels in state and federal courts. He litigated business, domestic, and personal injury cases for private clients, and as a Special Assistant Attorney General for the State of Georgia he served as lead trial and appellate counsel in litigation involving constitutional, mental health, contract, bidding, ad valorem taxation, tort claim, and administrative law. He has coauthored two books and authored numerous articles on Georgia trial law and legal history. He is admitted to practice in the Georgia and Texas state courts as well as in the Northern and Middle Districts of Georgia, the Fifth and Eleventh Circuit Courts of Appeal, and the United States Supreme Court. He is a member of the Supreme Court Historical Society and the Georgia Legal History Foundation.
