Nationally Recognized Expert in Bankruptcy Law Stuart Hirshfield Joins Mintz Levin's Bankruptcy Practice
NEW YORK – Stuart Hirshfield, an attorney with immeasurable experience representing creditors' committees, debtors, boards and committees of directors in complex workouts, has joined Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo, P.C. as a Member in the New York office, practicing in the Bankruptcy, Restructuring and Commercial Law section. Most recently, Mr. Hirshfield was a partner with Ropes & Gray.
Handling some of the most complex workouts for companies spanning a number of industries, Mr. Hirshfield has led bankruptcy mergers and acquisitions, various bankruptcy litigation matters, including preference and fraudulent transfer litigation, asset-based lending, structuring of deals and international insolvency matters, throughout his career.
Prior to joining Ropes & Gray, Mr. Hirshfield was Chairman of the Corporate Reorganization and Bankruptcy Group of Dewey Ballantine for 15 years. He has represented official committees of unsecured creditors including in the bankruptcies of: FoxMeyer Corporation, Ames Department Stores, Okura & Co. (America), Continental Information Systems Corporation, Cardinal Industries and McCrory Parent Corp, Inc.
Throughout his career, Mr. Hirshfield has also represented companies undergoing bankruptcies and restructurings including Bradlees, Inc., Fairmont Communication Corp., Carey Transportation, IDC Services, Inc., Manhattan Investment Fund, Ltd and Euro-American Lodging Corp. He also has led workouts for bank groups including the insolvencies of Harvard Industries, Inc., Frederick's of Hollywood, West Point Acquisition Corp. and Everfresh Beverage.
His debtor-in-possession financings include the bankruptcies of Sun Healthcare and DeVleig Bullard and the representation of investors and creditors in insolvencies including FutureLink Corp, Midway Airlines, Solutia, Inc. and Fleming, Inc. In addition, he has represented the boards of directors for Kmart, Inc., Horizon Natural Resources and Trump Hotels & Casino Resorts, Inc.

Mr. Hirshfield earned his B.A. from Syracuse University and his J.D. from Syracuse University College of Law. He is admitted to practice in New York as well as the U.S. District Court for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, the Eastern District of Wisconsin and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit.
