WASHINGTON, D.C. — Thompson Hine lawyer Michael J. Zimmer has been appointed national co-chair of the American Bar Association’s (ABA) Renewable Energy Resources Committee. Zimmer is of counsel in Thompson Hine’s Energy practice group in Washington, D.C.
The ABA committee analyzes and disseminates information on legal policy, project development and practical implementation issues that affect the development of markets for renewable energy resources, such as wind, biomass, biofuels, solar, energy efficiency, geothermal and ocean and hydroelectric technologies.
The appointment, which is peer-nominated, is effective through August 2009. Zimmer previously served as vice chair of national teleconferences for the committee and also served as vice chair of membership for the Renewable Energy Resources Subcommittee on Energy & Environmental Finance. He is also the incoming vice chair of the new ABA Energy & Environmental Finance Committee.
Zimmer focuses his practice on energy project development and regulation, climate change, energy project acquisitions and finance transactions. In more than 30 years of legal practice, he has worked with a broad range of clients in more than 35 states and more than 20 countries. He has served in various capacities with the American Council on Renewable Energy, the Marketing Committee of the Ohio Fuel Cell Coalition, and as the only practicing lawyer since 2005 on the U.S. Green Building Council Energy & Atmospheric Technical Advisory Group Committee.
Throughout his career, Zimmer has authored numerous articles and books and served as editor of various publications. He has been a national lecturer on energy issues since 1978, and serves with the Voinovich School for Leadership and Public Affairs at Ohio University and on the President’s Council at Providence College. He is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia and in Virginia.
