Greenberg Traurig Welcomes Intellectual Property and Licensing Of Counsel James Markwith to the Silicon Valley Office
EAST PALO ALTO, Calif. – (Business Wire) James Markwith has joined Greenberg Traurig, LLP’s Silicon Valley office as of counsel in the Intellectual Property & Technology Practice. Markwith's practice focuses on intellectual property (IP) transactions, with an emphasis on software and hardware development, open source, open standards and information technology (IT).
"I've worked with Jim for years as outside counsel. He will be a tremendous addition to the office as a whole and to our IP practice specifically. Jim provides us with deeper bench strength in our licensing and technology transactions practice," said Heather Meeker, co-managing shareholder of the Silicon Valley office.
Markwith assists companies in the management of their IP, from the beginning of the invention process through marketing and distribution. He has experience in mixed-source software development, open standards and open source licensing strategies, complex technology transactions, and merger and acquisition IP due diligence.
Markwith teaches Business Law at Seattle University's Albers School of Business and Economics. From 1995 to 2005, he served as an adjunct professor at Santa Clara University's Leavey School of Business and Administration. Prior to his legal career, Markwith served as a pilot in the U.S. Navy and was appointed an Instructor of Economics at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. Markwith received his J.D. from Santa Clara University School of Law, has an M.B.A. from Troy State University, and holds a B.S. in Business Administration and Finance from the California State University at Long Beach. He is a member of the California Bar Association.
