CA: Sacramento County Man Convicted of Insurance Fraud

SACRAMENTO, CA - Jeff Nofts pleaded no contest to felony insurance fraud Penal Code Section 550 (b)(3) after being accused of receiving outside income while collecting workers’ compensation benefits. On September 24, 2009 Nofts was sentenced to 3 years probation, and ordered to complete 354 hours of community service. Nofts has paid his total restitution of $8,500.

Nofts, 41, was injured on the job when a piece of equipment malfunctioned. His doctor restricted him from moving around without using crutches. Probe Information Services, Inc. conducted surveillance on Nofts, and found him active outside of his restrictions. When Nofts statement was taken by Probe’s SIU regarding his disability, he denied owning his own pool cleaning business and receiving outside income. Witness statements obtained by Probe’s SIU confirmed the claimant operated a pool cleaning business and that he was paid for his services while collecting TTD.

Probe and their client York Insurance Services Group provided the evidence to the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office. As a result of Probe and York ’s efforts, Nofts was convicted of Insurance fraud.
