Aaron Courtney is the Managing Partner of the Marten Law Group’s Portland, Oregon office. His natural resource and environmental law practice focuses primarily issue pertaining to climate change, alternative energy-use, and hazardous and solid waste management. Aaron has particular expertise in federal and state environmental permitting, and in consultation under the ESA. He regularly represents clients in environmental litigation arising under state and federal environmental laws, in Brownfield redevelopment and in environmental due diligence associated with business transactions.
Aaron frequently lectures and teaches environmental law courses, and publishes writings on environmental law topics such as climate change policies. He provides expertise on carbon management and greenhouse gas regulations in articles for Lexis Nexis’ Environmental Law and Climate Change Center. He recently co-authored a chapter on ocean dumping laws for an upcoming American Bar Association (ABA) treatise and published an article on cruise ship discharge regulations in the ABA's Natural Resources & Environment magazine. Aaron spent several years on the faculty at Lewis & Clark Law School in Portland, Oregon, where he taught courses on the ESA, Environmental Issues in Business Transactions and Environmental Litigation. He continues to teach at Lewis & Clark Law School as an Adjunct Professor.
