Peter E. Herzog

Crandall Melvin Professor of Law, Emeritus, Syracuse University College of Law

Peter Herzog studied law at the University of Vienna from 1949-1950, received his B.A. at Hobart College in Geneva, NY in 1952, his J.D. at Syracuse University in 1955, and his L.L.M. at Columbia University in 1956. He was Deputy Assistant Attorney General, then Assistant Attorney General with the New York State Department of Law from 1956 to 1958. Subsequently, he was assistant professor, associate professor, professor and, finally, Crandall Melvin Professor of Law at Syracuse University College of Law (1958 to 1994). He has been a Crandall Melvin Professor of Law, Emeritus since 1995. Professor Herzog has also served as a visiting professor at the University Paris I (1976/1977), at the University of Dijon (Spring 1987), at the University of Fribourg (Fall 1987), and at the College of Europe, Bruges, Belgium (Spring 1989). He is the author of several books and numerous articles in American and foreign periodicals on torts, conflict of laws, comparative civil procedure, and European Community law.
 
Prof. Herzog is one of the general editors and contributors to Smit & Herzog on the Law of the European Union*, a LexisNexis publication organised under the auspices of the Center for International Legal Studies (www.cils.org), an Austrian registered (ZVR No. 208672816) non-profit legal research and education organisation.
