About the Authors Professor James E. PfanderAmerican Law Institute member
Professor James E. Pfander, a member of the American Law Institute, has served as chair of the federal courts and civil procedure sections of the Association of American Law Schools. Pfander has focused his teaching and research on federal jurisdiction and procedure. Much of his recent work deals with the history and structure of Article III of the Constitution and the role of the Supreme Court of the United States in relation to inferior courts and tribunals. In July 2007, Pfander joined the faculty of the Northwestern University School of Law. Before 2007, Pfander served as the Prentice H. Marshall Professor of Law at the University of Illinois College of Law, and as a Visiting Professor of Law at Columbia Law School in New York City. In spring 2002, Pfander taught at the University of Bucharest in Romania as a Fulbright Senior Scholar.
