Seth Chandler

Foundation Professor of Law at the University of Houston Law Center

Seth J. Chandler is Foundation Professor of Law at the University of Houston Law Center, where he also serves as Co-director of the Health Law & Policy Institute. Past president of the American Association of Law School's section on Insurance Law, Professor Chandler has taught and written in the field of insurance law and regulation for 18 years with an emphasis on application of mathematical models and computer simulations to issues arising from the law and economics of insurance. He has also pioneered the use of the Mathematical computer language in legal analysis and has created various interactive demonstrations of insurance concepts. Professor Chandler holds an A.B. summa cum laude from Princeton University and a J.D. magna cum laude from Harvard Law School where he served as managing editor of the Harvard Law Review. A clerk for the late Judge Edward R. Becker, Professor Chandler practiced at Williams & Connolly and Munger, Tolles & Olson before becoming a full time academic in 1990. He served as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and then Vice Dean of the University of Houston Law Center from 2002 through 2005.
