A New York jury has awarded $16.25 million to a man and his wife for mesothelioma he contracted after exposure to asbestos in dental tape.
An interesting twist her, IMO, is that the guy is a mail carrier. In the late 1960s he considered a career change and attended dental technician school, where he used the lost wax method to make teeth. It was in this process that he was exposed to asbestos from the dental tape.
The man also had possible exposed to asbestos from his father, who worked as a steamfitter, and while at work, since the post office he works out of is across from the former world trade center and was sprayed with asbestos.
Dentsply settled prior to verdict but was held 20% liable, as was Kerr Corp. Todd Shipyards, where the man's father worked, was found 20% liable and W.R. Grace, which allegedly supplied the asbestos spray for the world trade center was found 40% liable. Only Kerr was on trial.
