Let’s see what’s up at a few of our Torts Top Blogs:
Donna M. Byrne of Food Law Prof Blog has a post up on a recent report by the GAO on offshore marine aquaculture. The report looks at the administrative and environmental issues inherent in developing a regulatory system for offshore marine aquaculture.
Over at the Mass Tort Litigation Blog Byron G. Stier posts about a new book by Timothy Lytton on the Catholic Church sex abuse litigation. The book discusses the role of tort litigation in bringing the scandal to light.
J. David Prince of Products Liability Prof Blogwrites about the Second Circuit’s dismissal of a public nuisance suit brought by New York City against gun manufacturers and wholesalers. The court reversed the federal trial court's ruling that the case fit within an exception to the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act.
At the Becker-Posner Blog the dynamic duo discuss the price of oil. Becker argues that the claims of $200 per barrel oil are unfounded. Higher prices, he claims, will force consumers to use less oil and encourage exploration companies to find new harder to reach sources of oil. This will simultaneously decrease demand and increase supply thereby bringing prices down. Posner argues that we should be cheering on the price of oil because of the environmental benefits. He would prefer that the price be pushed up by heavy taxes on oil or carbon.
Eric Turkewitz of New York Personal Injury Law Blog has an update on the Jet Blue toilet lawsuit filed by Gokhan Mutlu. Mutlu is suing Jet Blue for 2 million dollars for allegedly being forced sit in the toilet for the duration of a 3 hour flight. A commenter to Turkewitz’s previous post on this claims that Mutlu was riding for free on a jump seat and was forced to sit in the toilet when a flight attendant accidentally fell asleep in the jump seat. While Turkewitz doubts this story is completely accurate he feels it’s probably closer to the truth than Mutlu’s story.
And finally, at the Traumatic Brain Injury Law Blog Bruce Stern writes about this month’s issue of the Brain Injury Professional, the Official Publication of the North America Brain Injury Society. This issue focuses on the relationship between physical violence and traumatic brain injury. Create an account or login to post comments.
