Former Deputy Pleads No Contest to Fraud (CA) – A former deputy of the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office pleaded no contest to misdemeanor workers' comp fraud for receiving benefits while working on his retirement home. Read more
Breathitt Couple Charged With Trying to Defraud Insurance Company (KY) – A grand jury has charged a couple with scheming to defraud an insurance company to get lower workers' comp rates. Read more
BWC Fraud Investigator Misuses State Databases (OH) – A fraud investigator at the Bureau of Workers' Compensation used confidential state databases to figure out the identity of a person with whom she had an off-duty car accident. Read more
New Orleans City Hall Used Unlicensed Private Investigator With Felony Convictions and Allegations for Fraud to Check Workers' Comp Claims (LA) – New Orleans City Hall paid more than half a million dollars to a private investigator to spy on city employees who claimed workers' compensation. Turns out that that the P.I. had two prior felony convictions and was accused of fraud, and wasn't a licensed P.I. Read more
Judge Denies New Trial for Doctor Convicted of Health Care Fraud (WV) – A doctor, who defrauded Medicare, Medicaid, and West Virginia workers' compensation by billing insurers for services he never performed, was denied a new trial. Read more
Holliston Man Indicted on Payroll Fraud Charges (MA) – A man who owned a landscaping business was indicted on charges of falsifying payroll records to pay less on insurance and taxes. Read more
Long Island Flooring Contractor Charged With Passing Phony Certificates (NY) – The owner of a
Suffolk
County flooring company was arrested for allegedly providing a general contractor with phony certificates of insurance indicating he had workers' compensation coverage when in fact he did not. Read more
Town of Greece Man Arrested for Workers' Comp Fraud (NY) – State police have arrested a man who received workers' compensation benefits for an abdominal injury while he was working for a Rochester-based company. Read more
Carpenter Arrested for Workers' Comp Fraud (NY) – A man who worked as a carpenter during the same time period that he collected wage replacement benefits for an injury he said he sustained as a carpenter in 1999, was arrested and charged for allegedly collecting $10,200 in benefits for which he was not entitled. Unlicensed Contractors Busted in Landscaping Sting (CA) – Twenty-four people were busted in a two-day sting operation in Cambria for landscaping without a contractor's license. Unlicensed contractors usually don't carry insurance or workers' compensation and are a liability to anyone who hires them. Read more
