On May 21-22, 2009, human rights advocate Somaly Mam traveled across Singapore, telling tens of thousands about her efforts to combat child prostitution and human trafficking. At a children's rights conference, Singapore Chief Justice Chan Sek Keong recognized her work and why it was important to the country.
During her stay in Singapore, Somaly Mam shared with school children, lawyers, and others her experiences fighting for human rights and revealed what it was like for trafficking victims in places like Cambodian brothels. She also gave practical tips on how to combat trafficking and other human rights abuses. Thanks to technology, the message was spread throughout the country in speeches and interviews that were broadcast on television and radio.
LexisNexis' Singapore team took an active role in procuring speaking engagements, logistics planning, and providing real-time assistance to Somaly Mam for the trip.
