Peter E. Mills, a partner of Blank Rome Solicitors & Notaries in Hong Kong, has been appointed to a two-year term as secretary of the Hong Kong Maritime Law Association (HKMLA). Established in 1978, the HKMLA is comprised of maritime lawyers, ship owners, P&I clubs and others involved in maritime activities who have an interest in maritime law. The HKMLA promotes various activities including discussion and consideration of maritime law at an international level and in Hong Kong, and the advancement of reform where appropriate; participation in the activities of CMI in seeking to develop and unify maritime and mercantile laws, customs and practices; and liaising with other organizations and Maritime Law Associations around the world.
At Blank Rome Solicitors & Notaries, Mr. Mills concentrates his practice in litigation with particular emphasis on the maritime industry. He counsels clients in areas such as salvage, collision, total loss of ships and cargoes, cargo claims, fire, pollution, general average, protection & indemnity, and marine insurance; wreck removal, scrap sales, disposal of distressed cargoes, and damage to fixed and floating objects; trade disputes, charterparty disputes, bill of lading claims, pilotage, and arrest of ships and cargoes; crisis and casualty management, unsafe berth disputes, performance disputes, and personal injury and death claims; enforcement of international awards and judgments; and the sale and purchase of ships and cargoes.
