Latham & Watkins represented SearchMedia International Limited (“SearchMedia”), a leading media company in China, in its acquisition by Ideation Acquisition Corp. (“Ideation”).

SearchMedia is a leading nationwide multi-platform media company in China. It is one of the largest integrated operators of outdoor billboard and in-elevator advertising networks in China.

Ideation is a publicly traded special purpose acquisition corporation or “SPAC”, listed on the NYSE Amex. Ideation was formed for the purpose of acquiring one or more businesses with a focus on the media sector. As part of the transaction, Ideation redomiciled from Delaware to the Cayman Islands, and changed its name to SearchMedia Holdings Limited.

The transaction was announced on April 1, 2009 and closed on October 30, 2009.

The Latham & Watkins team was led by Hong Kong corporate partner David Zhang along with Los Angeles corporate partner Rob O’Shea, Shanghai associate Karen Yan and Hong Kong associates Tim Gardner, Chun Fai How, Ivy Peng and Steve Lin.
