Maples and Calder advises Evergrande Real Estate on Cayman Islands and BVI laws

Maples and Calder have acted as counsel as to Cayman Islands and BVI law to Evergrande Real Estate Group Limited, one of the largest developers of quality residential property projects and a leader in adopting a standardised operational model to manage various projects across China, in connection with its global offering comprising an international offering of shares by the Company and certain shareholders and an IPO on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. The global offering was jointly sponsored by Merrill Lynch Far East Limited and Goldman Sachs (Asia) L.L.C. and raised approximately HK$5.65 billion to be used primarily to pay outstanding land premiums and to finance existing projects and repay a portion of existing borrowings with the balance being available for general capital purposes.

The Maples and Calder team was led by partner Anne Walker. Sidley Austin was counsel to the Company as to Hong Kong and US law with Commerce & Finance Law Offices advising on PRC law. The underwriters were represented by Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer (as to Hong Kong US law) and King & Wood (as to PRC law).
