Jailed gangster at assault trial

SCMP reports Yip Kai-foon, one of the city's most infamous gangsters, sat wheelchair-bound and complained of pain yesterday as he faced trial for assaulting a prison officer with a pen in a maximum-security jail.

Yip, 47, a jewellery store robber who is serving a sentence of 36 years, had pleaded not guilty at Eastern Court to one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm. He was accused of attacking a Correctional Services Department officer in Stanley Prison on April 30, prosecutor Terry Wong Shun-yin said.
