What is Pro Bono?  “Pro Bono Publico” means for the public good or for the welfare of the whole.  More specifically, when licensed attorneys take on cases without compensation, they are said to be representing the party ‘pro bono publico’ or ‘pro bono.’  Participation in pro bono activities contributes to the community by providing access and/or tools for justice and legal services for those unable to pay.

Pro bono activities benefit not only the individuals and organizations served but the individual and organization providing the pro bono services.  Those who accept pro bono work are provided with opportunity to improve their skills and gain personal satisfaction and accomplishment by helping others in their community and the world.

LexisNexis® is uniquely positioned to capitalize on the strength and resources of, its legal information solutions, its accredited and licensed legal professionals, and those employees with desire to advance the Rule of Law by contributing in a meaningful way to pro bono activities.

To this end, LexisNexis® has established a Pro Bono Task Force, which is responsible for managing the company's pro bono activities to maximize the value realized from those activities both by the company and by the activities’ beneficiaries.  To accomplish its objective, the Pro Bono Task Force identifies appropriate pro bono opportunities, encourages broad participation in those approved pro bono activities by LexisNexis employees (particularly but not exclusively by employees with legal training), helps to match employees with approved pro bono opportunities, coordinates the donation of equipment and services to approved pro bono organizations, and develops programs and policies to foster the long term success of the company's pro bono initiative.
